One Word…. COLD

I left the house this morning at 8:30 and it was 31 degrees and by the time I got down to Leschi it was a balmy 36. I ended up wearing my OR beanie, Craft base, two long sleeve fleece jerseys, Adidas winter gloves, fleece team tights, wool socks, toe warmers and neo booties.

Why did I ride today?

Because it was BEAUTIFUL.

Another steller Saturday ride, cold but sunny, crisp air and clear roads. We had a fairly large group today compared to last weekend. We kept the pace nice and easy down to Seward and then jumped on Rainier Ave South when we got passed by 3 guys from Axely. I jumped in all the way down to the turn dropping one of their guys and taking the sprint before the light. Now really, did I win it or did they let me have it? I’m pretty sure they let me take it… It’s too early to be THAT strong :-) I did feel pretty damn good though.

I let them roll off and waited for the rest of the group to catch up. I pulled a really stupid move too, turning circles on the Renton airport access road waiting for them with out looking. I almost got taken out by an Oldsmobile and it would have SO been my fault. I should know better. when we all got together we headed up north towards Kirkland where we stopped for coffee. This has become one of my favorite parts of the ride… The laughs, comraderie, the friendly jabs at each other. I know I need to enjoy these now because in a few months it’s going to be balls to the wall training time and stopping will not be an option. It’s days like today that really appreciate the guys (and gals!) I ride with. The many personalities and strengths of each of us make us stronger and I can’t wait to race with them in 08.
John Dustin and I were the only ones left at Leschi as everyone peeled off at their respective exits and as the 3 of us said or goodbyes I headed offto get a cup of coffee. As I got off the bike I noticed the empty space under my saddle and then smacked myself in the face, I had just ridden the lake without ANY tools, tubes or pump. I left everything on the Cannondale.

I was so lucky. You think I would have learned after my 3 flat ride last month (shared by Martha, she and I set the flat record for the season I believe on that day)

I got home and Rosanna cooked breakfast for lunch. Eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sausage and a big glass of OJ… So much for the calories burned on THAT ride! I finished up and went out to rake and sweep up the rest of the leaves in the front yard and have been sitting on the couch for the remainder of the day watching Animal House, Forest Gump and Blazing Saddles. I am relaxed :-)

Tomorrow is the Jingle Bell 5k run, so no ride for me!

  • Thanks OAD… It was an absolute WONDERFUL time and Rosanna and I really want to go back. I’d like to head east though and check out Dublin. We were pretty much in the country the whole time. Loved it!
